After a discovery of the vineyard, our plots of land, the releifs and our soil and subsoil we have gone to visit the cellar and then taste and share a dinner with Charles, Robin and Jake.

Thanks very much friends for coming from so far and spending times late in the evening to share good moments with us.

Disease : the "Broussin"

We just found a branch infected with the "Broussin" It is the only bacterial desease that affects the vineyard of Champagne.

Broussin is the only desase of this category that can be found in Champagne. It's produces by a bacteria present in the all vineyard and remaining dormant until it find favourable conditions of development like after strong frosts or the lesions or burst caused by hail. Some tumors appear that destroy the vasculature and, on the young vines, cause the death of the cep. This is fortunately a rare desease appeared suddenly in Champagne ofter the big frost of the winter 1978. The remedy is essentialy to remove and burn the diseased branchs. By chance, the pruning is a meticulous and manual work, so it's impossible not too see any branch contaminated by the Broussin, so is destruction is systématic.

22nd of January : Saint Vincent.

Saint Vincent is the patron saint of the growers. Each year on the 22nd of January, wine growers therefore celebrate its feast in all villages in the territory of the Appellation d'Origine Controlée (AOC) of Champagne. At Villers-Marmery (our village) the brotherhood of St Vincent has taken the habits for at least 15 yearsn to enrtust the procession stick of St Vincent to a grower, so they can take care the one on the other during all the year. If you follow our blog since the beginning, so you know that it is Marie-Noëlle who was honored to host the icone the past year. After 12 months at home, we have entrusted our Patron Saint to another grower of the village (chosen bu us in secret and whose name is revealed at the ceremony.

For this occasion, the youngs of the the brotherhood of St Vincent has weared their traditional clothes and came with the growers to share coffee, croissant, paté and champagne at the estate.
